What Vapers Should Do to Protect Their Pets

We at E-Cig Brands are like you–we’re pet lovers! We understand that your pets are part of the family. They may not be genetically related to you, but you adopted them and they’re family nonetheless. You want to make sure that Fluffy and Rex stay strong and healthy so they live long, happy lives. That’s why you never want to share your vape mod with your pets. If you love your cat or dog, you don’t want to ever let them get their paws on your e-cig. No matter what e-cigarette brand you buy from, e-liquid is never ever healthy for four-footed friends.

That’s why there’s a label on your e-liquid warning you to “keep away from children and pets.”

Keith Sutton of the UK discovered this one fateful day when his 14-week-old puppy Ivy died of nicotine poisoning. An e-cigarette cartridge fell out of his pocket, but before Sutton had a chance to stop the curious pup, she had clawed open the packaging and helped herself! Only a few moments later, she was frothing at the mouth.

Even the tiny bit that she lapped up was enough to send her straight to heaven. Sutton rushed her to the nearest animal hospital, but the ten-minutes it took to drive her there was enough time for the poison to absorb into her bloodstream.

The veterinarian loaded her with steroids, but it was just too late for poor, little Ivy. It may not be too late for your best buddy though. Take this warning to heart and make sure that your cats and dogs never get the chance to break into your vaping equipment.

After all, just because it’s child-proof doesn’t mean it’s pet-proof. Pets have claws. If you love your canine and feline friends, then you need to keep them far away from your electronic cigarettes brand merchandise and your regular cigarettes for that matter.

Remember, vaping and pets don’t mix!

How to Protect Your Pets From Nicotine Poisoning

If you’re a pet-owner, you have to take extra precautions to make sure you’re furry friends can’t access your e-liquid.

  • Keeping your e-juice out of sight isn’t going to suffice. You have to make sure that your vape liquid is safely locked away. You’d be surprised how easily cats and dogs can find their way into closed cabinets and onto high shelves. Cats are far more agile than humans, and if they have claws they can probably climb pretty easily.
  • Remember, your pets sense of smell is much better than yours is. Make sure not to keep your cartridges on your person either because your cat or dog is sure to find it.
  • If you have to change your cartridge or refill your tank, do your best not to do it in your pet’s presence. Instead, close the door and take a few moments to yourself to load up the tank. If your cat or dog pounces unexpectedly, the e-juice could spill everywhere, and she could easily lap it up before you get the chance to pick her up.
  • When you are vaping, try to step out of the room. While the nicotine in the vapor you exhale probably isn’t enough to do any harm, box mods occasionally leak or spit out juice. If your pet happens to be around, he could easily lick up a few drops you didn’t notice. Otherwise, at least make sure there is proper ventilation so your pet doesn’t have a chance to breathe in the vapor.
  • Get your pet trained as soon as possible. You’ll want to make sure you teach your dog to behave himself and to stay calm when he’s young so he doesn’t jump around unexpectedly. If you don’t know how to train your pup yourself, bring him to puppy training school to have him learn from a professional. While you always want to be careful, a well-trained dog presents less of a risk.
  • Call the Pet Poison Helpline toll-free at 1-800-213-6680 or your nearest animal hospital if you suspect nicotine poisoning.

Final Thoughts on Vapers and Pets

If you think your vape juice smells good, then chances are probably pretty good that someone else thinks so too. Cats and dogs are always ready to follow interesting new smells, and your vape juice is no exception. No matter how much you love your e-cig brand, you shouldn’t keep it to yourself.

If you keep a pet at home, you’ll want to make sure that you’re extra careful when vaping to keep your e-liquid out of reach. As a vaper, or a smoker for that matter, it’s perfectly fine to keep an animal at home as long as you keep your equipment locked up and out of reach of your favorite furry friends.
